Our Journey

How Carnesto Ltd Started

Three friends with a shared passion. A small studio in Lisbon. An idea that wouldn’t stop growing.

We didn’t start with a business plan. We started with clay under our fingernails and a conviction that handmade crafts shouldn’t feel like they’re just for young people. In 2019, we opened our first workshop space because we noticed something: adults between 40 and 60 were hungry for something real. Not another screen. Not another fitness trend. Something tactile. Something slow.

The pottery class that started with eight people now has a waiting list. Our watercolour sessions? We’ve expanded to three different schedules. But here’s what matters — we’re not racing. We’ve kept our class sizes small, our instruction hands-on, and our approach unhurried. You’ll work at your own pace.

Carnesto Ltd has grown because we listen. When people asked for candle-making workshops, we learned the craft properly and brought it in. When floral arrangement became a request, we connected with local growers and built something genuine. We’re not chasing trends — we’re responding to what our community actually wants.

What We Offer

Each craft has its own rhythm, its own rewards. We’ve designed everything around your comfort and genuine skill development.

Pottery & Ceramics

From hand-building to wheel work. We start you on the basics and don’t rush the learning. Most people throw their first decent bowl in week three. Some of our students have been coming for three years.

Watercolour Painting

We teach the fundamentals — colour mixing, water control, composition — but it’s not rigid. If you want to paint loose and expressive, that’s fine. If you want precise detail, we’ll show you how. Your style, your way.

Candle Making

It’s more technical than people expect, and we like that. You’ll learn about wax types, fragrance blending, and pouring temperatures. By the end of your first session, you’re taking home a candle you actually made.

Floral Arrangement

Working with fresh flowers teaches you patience and observation. We source seasonal blooms from local growers, and you’ll learn arrangement principles that work whether you’re making a simple bunch or something more complex.

Our Approach to Teaching

We’re not trying to turn you into a professional artist in eight weeks. That’s not what this is about. What we’ve learned over the years is that adults learn differently than kids. You don’t want cheerleading — you want honesty. You want instruction that respects your intelligence. You want to understand the why, not just the what.

That’s why our instructors spend time on fundamentals. Why we’ll correct your technique if it’s going to cause you problems down the road. And why we celebrate real progress, not just completion. Someone who’s been coming to pottery for two months and finally understands how to centre clay — that’s a win worth marking.

We keep classes small by design. Eight to ten people maximum in most sessions. This isn’t scalable in the traditional sense, but it means we actually know you. We remember that you struggle with colour mixing, or that you prefer working alone. We adjust. We adapt.
